Life can be quite shitty at times. Regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, a storm is on its way. You’re either in the thick of a storm, on the tail end of one, or on the brink of a new one. That’s life. It’s also where reinvention comes in — Ayodeji Awosika
I was walking down Mass Ave. Life seems to follow its rhythm, but there’s something different in the environment; I can feel the fear in the air.
People try to evade the approach, something we have not been used to, and even extroverts have had their voices muted a bit; for fear of what comes out of their breath. But even so, people continue to buy their vegetables in the open market in the middle of the street — with a masked face.
This summer, dining outside restaurants has been something of a novelty. The creativity to continue businesses running has led to creating alternatives and extensions outside the establishments. Eating a juicy steak on the side of the street while people are watching us can be kind of uncomfortable.
However, people are struggling not to lose their sociality due to the pandemic.
How much do you enjoy watching a movie, just released, in your living room, then under the dim environment and surround sound of a movie theater?
I, personally, miss the smell of popcorn. No matter how hard you try to imitate the cinema, nothing can equal the joy of seeing a movie; accompanied by a friend or someone special.
Unfortunately, we have to put all of that aside for this uncertain time.
However, after the harsh winter is over, the flowers sprout again, growing out of nowhere; we see them bloom again.
Humanity has found a way to cope with the adversities of the environment, wars, and pandemics — this is no different.
What is happening today has happened before and will happen again in the future. For us, humans, what has led us to thrive in this world, has been our way of adaptation.
The people who seem to care the least about the current situation are the homeless. Wandering the streets, for them, it is of little importance that they wear a dirty mask. They seem to indulge in their mental adventures, with nothing more to worry about than the next shot of liquor.
Everyday life is just the same; a daily hustle to feed their desires and needs. We worry so much about the future while they live careless in the present day.
For me to talk about them, it’s like time-traveling back to my old ways. I was lost, just like them, with nothing more to care about than to kill the hangover. But even in that state, I always hope that I will see the light of another day.
I have to deal with being awakened through shouting — military style — in the mornings because the shelter staff had to pesticide spray under my bed to kill fleas and parasites — an outrageous daily life.
I live my life differently now than yesterday, with lots of gratitude. Every day, I’m trying to sow seeds of love, learn to write, and express what everybody ignores or tries to shove under the carpet.
Not all of us live life smoothly, nor do we all live it hard at the same time. I notice that the same sun warms us all. The warmth of love expressed through mutual encouragement, especially in these times of distress, is what we desperately need.
The point of my article is to express that better times will come, and we will see the current situation as an experience to adapt, improve, and defend ourselves better in the future.
Be positive! The best is yet to come.
